Why We're Launching Today
We're not making a big deal out of this. No countdown, no big reveal - just putting this out there in case it's useful to someone. Honestly, we never intended to share it, but we did want to say a word about why we changed our minds today, of all days.
It's Father's Day. Our dad was one of the most culturally curious people we've ever known - always wanting to understand where something came from and who made it that way, memorizing capital cities for the fun of it. Football was a big part of that. He loved the game in a way that had nothing to do with any one team or country (though Brasil always had his heart).
I carried that into this app.
This app started as simple list meant to keep us sane and engaged during the early days of COVID. The goal: visit a restaurant from each country in the world before it was all over. The world opened up before we could finish but that hasn't stopped us from continuing to try. It's partially 'vibe -coded' and meant to be a home-cooked app so not at all meant for mass consumption.
But today I felt like sharing. Today - after an amazing set of weeks in New York - I was struck (at least 4 times!) by the phenomenal vibes in this place. The melting-pot created by diaspora communities, the kindness from random strangers, the odd sense of community that occurs when you throw nearly 9 million people into 472 square miles.
If you're in one of the available cities, take a look around. Check out somewhere new. Get a stamp. No grand opening, just an open door like my dad tended to keep.
